Recently we've had requests for more information on the new 2011 workcamps in Southeast Asia. Which made us realize that you've started to plan for meaningful travel trips for the new year. Here are only some of the upcoming workcamp projects in Vietnam, Indonesia, and India in 2011.

Indonesia:
 DJ-32     8 – 22 Jan 11                       Semarang Orphanage

Volunteers will be doing renovation work by painting class rooms and making bookshelves for the library. You will also involved in  teaching English and playing with the kids. Volunteers will also assist local teachers in classes. You can help with basic conversation in English, helping teachers in giving training on physical activities of the students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc. This project aims to call attention to the future of these special students of Semarang.

India:
Dharamsala              (Tibetan Culture/Environment/Kids)              SPL –  136
7th to 27th Mar 2011

This small paradise is home to the Dalai Lama and to a significant Tibetan settlement in India. Dharamsala is set in the backdrop of the snow-clad peaks of Dhauladhar Mountains. It is the capital of the Tibetan Government in exile and the residence of the Dalai Lama.

In the first two weeks of the camp, the volunteers will get the opportunity to learn about the Tibetan culture and the different issues related to the exile of its people and the re-settlement in India. There will be cultural activities and exchange with the Tibetan Youth with the support of the Tibetan Welfare Office. The project will also include an awareness campaign for the protection of the environment and solid waste management in cooperation with the Tibetan welfare office. Furthermore, the volunteers will support a local Indian/Tibetan school in need of simple renovation work and interact with the school children.

Finally on the third week of the camp volunteers will take part in a 4 day trekking activity around the mountains of Dharamsala and Triund.

Vietnam:
Hai Duong Province            (English Teaching)           SJV1102

Your assistance will be needed at the Hai Duong welfare centre with preparing food for the children, taking care of the orphans, and renovating the bedrooms of the children, painting the walls and clearing the center or dormitories.Spend time after work with local volunteers or local people for an enriching cultural exchange experience.

Dear friends,

Welcome to the new GVC Blog! This is where we'll be announcing new workcamps, pictures of our volunteers in action, and share thoughts on work in developing countries.

We've been organising workcamps in various parts of Asia, with very satisfied volunteers returning with good news. Many of our partners in these countries have also told us that their own youth volunteers are keen to visit and do meaningful work here in Singapore. Isn't that a great way to build friendship and understanding between people of different countries?

So, GVC is happy to announce our 14 Days Youth Workcamp that will be organized in Oct and Nov 2010, co-organized with Dejavato Foundation (Indonesia). There will be 22 Indonesian youths coming to Singapore to participate in this workcamp.

We are now opening registration for 10 Singapore youth Volunteers and will be happy to welcome your high motivation and passion in the camp.
